KUALA LUMPUR – The Dewan Rakyat approved Supply Bill 2021 for the Prime Minister’s Department (JPM) at the Committee Level through block voting today.
The Speaker of Dewan Rakyat, Datuk Azhar Azizan Harun announced the result of the vote stating that 105 Members of Parliament (MPs) supported the Bill, 95 opposed it while 20 MPs were not present.
The block voting was carried out after more than 15 Members of Parliament stood up and called for the vote.
The five ministries under the JPM are Legal Affairs (Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan), Economic Affairs (Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed), Religious Affairs (Datuk Seri Dr Zulkifli Mohamad), Sabah and Sarawak Affairs (Datuk Seri Maximus Ongkili) and Special Functions (Datuk Seri Mohamad Redzuan Md Yusof).
The Dewan Rakyat went into a 10-minute recess prior to the voting process to allow MPs to enter and vote for the Bill.
The recess was chaotic when MPs from the opposition questioned several representatives from the government entering the Dewan Rakyat during the first 10-minute of the voting process.
“This is not fair! Kota Bharu just entered to vote!” several opposition MPs shouted.
Standing up to interrupt, the Arau MP, Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim (UMNO) said the MPs can still enter the Dewan Rakyat during the voting session.
“One can vote as long as the result is not announced,” he said.
The JPM is allocated with RM11.69 billion in Budget 2021. RM4.47 billion was for the management expenditure while RM7.2 billion is for development expenditure. –MalaysiaGazette
