KUALA LUMPUR – UMNO veteran, Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah (Ku Li) should not have held a joint-news conference with Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad to reject Budget 2021 as it is opposed to the party’s decision.

According to the UMNO Information Chief, Shahril Suffian Hamdan, his action cannot be accepted or turned into the new normal in UMNO.

According to him, the Member of Parliament of Gua Musang is a senior politician in UMNO who is also an advisor. His action had confused the members of the party on the party’s position over the issue.

The action also showed disrespect to the party’s discipline which has decided to support Budget 2021 and he also further showed contempt to the party by holding a political news conference with a top leader of the party’s foe.

“It is common to agree or disagree with a policy or approach in any organisation. We can voice our opinion to the right channel.

“Perhaps, we can even voice it openly to the media once in a while and that could be acceptable. Which politician is not naughty once in a while? Which politician does not have their own opinion on certain matters?

“That is something normal which would add colours to any political stage in any country or party.

“However, clearly announcing and inviting people to take actions on policy without the permission of the party is against the party. That is another story.

“This is no longer speculations or adding spices. This is an open political action before the public,” he said in a statement today.

According to Shahril, UMNO needs to plan its next move to ensure that the discipline and integrity of the party is appreciated and respected.

“Many sounded us, the leadership to reduce contradicting statements. I appreciate that.

“Perhaps, an advisor who has far more experience and wisdom than me also cannot escape from making mistakes,” he added. –MalaysiaGazette
