KUALA LUMPUR – The Speaker of Dewan Rakyat, Datuk Azhar Azizan Harun advised Members of Parliament (MPs) to lodge report to the authorities if they feel that the MP of Batu, P. Prabakaran has violated the Home Surveillance Order (HSO) to attend the debate at the Parliament last week.
He said, the punishment on MPs found to have breached orders by the Ministry of Health (MOH) or the National Security Council (MKN) is under the jurisdiction of the ministry and not under the Speaker of Dewan Rakyat.
Therefore, he does not have any power to take actions on Prabakaran.
Earlier, the MP of Putrajaya (BN), Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor question Azhar about Prabakaran’s action during the Supply Bill 2021 debate for the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia on 10 December.
The same question was also raised by the MP of Segamat (Bersatu), Datuk Seri Santhara Kumar who said that Prabakaran had attended the session despite the HSO was issued on him.
“Actually, last Thursday, the Sergeant-at-arms and I did not realise that it happened. However, after Thursday, upon checking the name list of votes, Yang Berhormat (Batu) voted.
“As what I have mentioned, the power to punish or compound anyone who violates MOH or MKN’s order on Covid-19 is not under my jurisdiction. Thus, I do not have the power to do so.
“However, I wish to advise anyone who wants to bring this matter further, please lodge report to the relevant parties,” he said.
However, the MP of Arau (BN) Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim then requested Prabakaran to be referred to the Parliamentary Rights and Privileges Committee for violating the conducts of MP.
“We cannot take this lightly. What if there is a sudden outbreak among the MPs?
“He is endangering us. This is an extraordinary violation. Therefore, I request the Speaker to refer him to the committee,” he said. –MalaysiaGazette
