KUALA LUMPUR – The police opened an investigation on the viral provocative Indonesian national anthem video, which had altered the lyrics and insulted the republic.
Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador said that the Classified Criminal Investigation Unit D5 of the Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department is conducting the investigation together with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).
“We will not compromise with any irresponsible individuals. Stern actions will be taken according to the law,” he told a news portal today, elaborating on the viral video involving Indonesia.
In a statement yesterday, the Malaysian Embassy in Jakarta emphasized that the authorities in Malaysia are investigating the video.
“The Embassy of Malaysia in Jakarta has taken note of a video that has allegedly insulted Indonesia, which has been claimed to have been uploaded from Malaysia.
“The Government of Malaysia strongly condemns any negative provocations that are intended to affect the close bilateral relations between Malaysia and Indonesia.
“If it I found that the video was uploaded by a Malaysian citizen, strict action will be taken based on existing laws,” said the Malaysian Embassy in Jakarta in a statement.
Although the comment section in the Youtube video has been erased, the video has been uploaded and shared in various online application in the world’s largest Muslim populated country. –MalaysiaGazette
