KUALA LUMPUR – 1,870 new Covid-19 positive cases were recorded today, shifting the total tally of the disease to 110,485 cases with 22,562 active cases.
From the new amount of cases, two were imported cases which contracted the disease from abroad while the remaining 1,868 cases were local infections.
Director-General of Health Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said that for the very first time, Johor recorded the highest daily cases with 607 cases or 32.5 percent of the cases reported today.
According to him, from that amount, 578 cases or 95.2 percent were from the clusters and active close contact screening in the field.
The increment of cases in Johor was caused by prison related cluster, namely, the Tembok Choh Cluster which reported 374 cases or 61.6 percent from the cases in the state.
“This is followed by Selangor with 472 cases or 25.2 percent of the total daily cases in the country and Sabah with 280 cases (15 percent). 402 cases or 21.5 percent were related to lockup, immigration detention depot and prison clusters involving Tembok Choh Cluster with 374 cases.
“The Jalan Harapan Prison Cluster recorded eight cases; Pagar Bentong Cluster, six cases; Tembok Mempaga Cluster, six cases; Tembok Cluster, four cases; Pagar Siput Cluster, three cases; Tembok Gajah Cluster, two cases and the Hala Mutiara Cluster, 1 case,” he said in a daily statement regarding Covid-19 in Malaysia.
Noor Hisham further said that 131 Covid-19 positive cases are being treated at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) where 62 cases required respiratory support.
Besides that, there was an increment of six Covid-19 deaths today, turning the cumulative Covid-19 death cases in the country to 463 cases or 0.42 percent from the total number of cases.
745 Covid-19 patients have recovered from the disease and discharged from the hospital today.
“The cumulative cases of people fully recovering from the outbreak is 87,460 cases or 79.2 percent from the total cases,” he said. –MalaysiaGazette
