KUALA LUMPUR – There is no reason for the 15th General Election (GE15) not to be held soon, said the Secretary-General of UMNO, Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan, commenting that the government should not make the Covid-19 pandemic as an excuse not to hold the election.

According to him, vaccine exists to protect human from being infected by the disease.

“I see that Covid-19 is no longer a reason for the Perikatan Nasional (PN) not to hold GE earlier, as we were told that there is vaccine.

“Our question here is why Malaysia receives its vaccine late when 50 percent of the countries in the world have started injecting vaccines on their people since December last year.

“Why is it in Malaysia, we can only inject the vaccines to one million citizens in February. The government needs to act faster,” he told the journalists after a meeting with the President of UMNO and UMNO Division Leaders at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC).

According to Ahmad Maslan, UMNO is ready to face any possibility of General Election as it is important and needs to be given focus by the leaders and the grassroots.

“We do not need to fear GE although the PN government is right on the line and to be a government, we need 111 + 1.

“But, this government is a 111 + 1 government. In other words, the slimmest majority government in the world or an unstable government. Everyone must admit that.

“The government needs to be stable for the economy to recover. Investors do not come to Malaysia because the government is not stable. It is very fragile,” he said.

On the media reports about Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s statement on UMNO leaving the PN government this February, Ahmad Maslan, who is also the newly minted Secretary-General of BN said that they are only reports by the media.

He said, discussions on the matter will be brought to the UMNO Supreme Council Meeting. –MalaysiaGazette
