KUALA LUMPUR – Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar is ready to relinquish his position before 1 February 2021 if the decision is made by the Supreme Council of UMNO.

Khairy, who is also the Member of Parliament of Rembau (BN) said that he would conform to any decision made by the UMNO Supreme Council without any question.

However, he cannot verify is the media reports are valid or not.

On the contrary, Khairy said that he is tied to any decision that will be delivered by the UMNO Supreme Council meeting tomorrow.

“If that is the decision of the Supreme Council, I will obey my party’s order.

“If the Supreme Council wants its member to exit and resign, I will conform,” he told the journalists after a news conference on the procurement of Covid-19 vaccine at the Parliament.

Khairy commented on media reports that the President of UMNO, Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had requested the Members of Parliament (MP) from UMNO to leave the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government before February to pave way for the 15th General Election (GE15) as soon as possible.

Ahmad Zahid was rumoured to have made that statement during his meeting with the UMNO Division Leaders nationwide at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) today.

According to Ahamd Zahid, UMNO has no choice as the current government failed to understand the plight of the people who wanted a renewal and reformation in administration.

Besides that, unverified reports also reported that Ahmad Zahid had requested all ministers and Government-Linked Companies Chairperson (GLC) from UMNO to surrender their positions before 1 February 2021. –MalaysiaGazette
