RAWANG – Not merely caned, the child with disabilities was also stepped on and kicked in her stomach until her intestines ruptured!

Due to the abuse, the five year 11 months old girl vomited before she passed away at her residence.

Her grandaunt, who is the main suspect, were among the six family members arrested by the police for investigation.

The Gombak District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Arifai Tarawe said that the tragic incident took place on 30 December at the main suspect’s house at Kampung Sungai Chinchin, Gombak.

According to him, the police received a report at 7.00 pm from the victim’s aunt that the child went unconscious after throwing up in the living room. The paramedics were rushed to the scene.

He added, the paramedics ran an examination on the victim and confirmed that the girl has died.

“The police initially classified the case as sudden death while the body of the victim was sent for autopsy at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital as the early examination on the victim did not show any criminal elements. The complainant also alleged that the victim died of stomach ache and had medical history of having excess fluid in the brain and had gone for a brain surgery.

“The victim was also a person with disability as she could not stand and walk properly. She often wore disposable diapers but she was sane and complete. She was often cheerful and could speak without problem.

“Unfortunately, the post-mortem on 1 January revealed that the cause of death of the victim was due to force trauma, which caused her intestines to rupture before the police realised that there were elements of crime and the case is reclassified as 302 of the Penal Code for murder,” he said in a news conference today.

According to Arifai, based on the autopsy, six suspects from a family aged between 24 and 55 were arrested on 1 January.

It involved three men and three women including her biological father and grandaunt who is an Indonesian.

He added, the victim was under the care of her father and grandaunt since 2017 after her parents were separated.

Arifai said, further inspections found that various objects and cane were suspected to have been used by her grandaunt to abuse the child each time the victim defecated.

According to him, there were scratches on the body and head of the victim, besides wounds from mosquito coil burn. The suspect was also believed to have been stepped on and kicked in her stomach causing her intestines to rupture.

All suspects were remanded beginning 2 until 7 January to be investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder and it may be extended tomorrow.

“The main suspect, who is the 55-year-old grandaunt is an Indonesian who has been living in this country for a long time where her children have grown and has permanent resident status here.

“The police do not reject the possibility that the grandaunt lost her patience and could not control her emotion while caring for that unfortunate child and the abuse could have taken place before her own father who was seldom at home as he is a lorry driver,” he said. –MalaysiaGazette
