PETALING JAYA – Two men, including an individual with Datuk title have been remanded for two days to assist in an investigation for suspicion of assaulting and threatening a man in a restaurant at Tropicana Avenue last Tuesday.
The remand order was issued by the Assistant Registrar of the Petaling Jaya Magistrate Court this morning and verified by the suspects’ lawyer, Datuk Suraj Singh.
Yesterday, the Selangor Criminal Investigation Department Chief, Datuk Fadzil Ahmat said that the two suspects aged 39 and 42 have been arrested at about 3.40 pm at Mutiara Damansara.
Last Tuesday, the Datuk suspect was told by a restaurant patron sitting next to his table at Tropicana Avenue, Persiaran Tropicana that he was talking obnoxiously loud. Dissatisfied with the comment, the suspect assaulted the restaurant patron and his friend slapped the patron’s girlfriend.
Early police investigation found that the main suspect with Datuk title has records of criminal intimidation which caused harm two years ago.
Fadzil applied for the remand order to enable detailed investigation on the duo, including identifying their background besides possible involvement in gangsterism.
The assault incident was recorded in a 29 second video and went viral.
Both suspects are being investigated under Section 323/503/506 of the Penal Code. –MalaysiaGazette
