KUALA LUMPUR – PAS supports the government’s measure in declaring the political emergency to curb the spread of Covid-19.

Its President, Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang said that the proclamation of emergency is the best effort in handling the uncertain political crisis in the country.

He said, the decision to proclaim an emergency was made maturely when a special committee is appointed to monitor the state of the emergency.

“We need to be aware that in such condition (Covid-19 outbreak), we are still trying to seek for the number of seats. Until today, there is not enough of seats to form a government or to sign a list. No names and the Agong rejected (the proclamation of support).

“At the Parliament, efforts to reject the budget was also not successful. It was also not successful at the committee level, one after another. And, until today, it is still not enough.

“After UMNO is said that it will be working with DAP, some people in UMNO could not accept that. Tun (Dr Mahathir) cannot accept PKR. This is the problem. We cannot overcome this problem, thus, a proclamation of emergency needs to be made,” he said.

Commenting further, Abdul Hadi said that the political emergency is the saviour to the current political crisis.

Demands for the 15th General Election (GE15) to be held immediately by certain quarters can cause the Covid-19 pandemic to worsen in the country.

However, according to Hadi, the government needs to have wisdom in ensuring that the emergency can be managed well.

He said, the declaration of political emergency can somehow avoid the country from becoming the location for illegal immigrants seeking refuge.

If Malaysia can successfully overcome the pandemic effectively, it would attract illegal immigrants from neighbouring countries such as Indonesia, Myanmar and the Philippines to enter the country illegally because they feel safer here compared to the home countries. –MalaysiaGazette
