SELAYANG – The grandaunt to a five-year-old child with disability who was dead after being stepped on her stomach, causing her intestines to rupture was charged at the Magistrate Court today.
The accused, Ipzumo Ambo, 55, did not record any plea after the charges were read to her before Magistrate Nik Mohd Fadli Nik Azlan as the case is under the jurisdiction of the High Court.
According to the charge paper, Ipzuma is charged with having the intention to murder the victim and the charge is read together with Act 302 of the Penal Code with carries the death penalty upon conviction.
Ipzuma, an Indonesian, looked indifferent when the charges were read to her. She was charged for committing the offence at a house in Kampung Sungai Chin Chin, Gombak, between 28 December 2020 at 12.01 am until 30 December 2020 at 8.10 pm.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurul Ain Shafie led the prosecution, meanwhile, the accused was represented by a lawyer from the Indonesian Embassy.
Meanwhile, at the Sessions Court, the biological father of the unfortunate child was charged over neglect.
The accused, Roza Iskandar, 34, was accused for causing physical harm on the body of the girl. The offence was committed between 1 January until 30 December 2020 at the same address.
The accused however pleaded not guilty and claimed trial before the Selayang Sessions Court Judge, Maziah Joary Mohd Tajudin.
Roza was charged for committing the offence under Section 31(1)(A) of Child Act and is punishable under Section 31(1) of the same act.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurul Ain Shafie offered bail at RM15,000 with other additional conditions such as reporting himself at his nearest police station once a week, besides, not to disturb the prosecution witnesses.
However, the defence counsel, Suriati Che Ariffin requested for the bail to be reduced to RM5,000 as the accused could not afford it.
The judge set bail at RM8,000 with the additional conditions. The two cases will be mentioned on 18 February.
The disheartening death of the child with Hydrocephalus, a condition in which an accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) occurs within the brain shocked the nation as she was suspected to be abused by her own grandaunt and biological father.
Autopsy found that the cause of death was due to intestinal ruptures and there were both old and new wounds on the body of the victim, believed to be due to abuse. –MalaysiaGazette
