KUALA LUMPUR – After a widespread protest, the government has caved in and extended the operation hours of eateries throughout the Movement Control Order (MCO).
Starting tomorrow, the eateries no longer need to close at 8.00 pm but their business hours can extend until 10.00 pm, said Senior Minister (Security Cluster), Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
According to him, the decision was reached during the National Security Council (MKN) meeting today.
The measure is taken by the government after listening to public complaints on the short operation hours for eateries.
“Many complained about the closure of eateries at 8.00 pm. Some said that they didn’t have enough of time to buy food as they finish work late and the food operators such as satay sellers said that their sales operation only start after Maghrib. There were many complications,” he said during a news conference today.
However, he said that the government does not permit dine-in but will keep to the existing takeaway or food delivery services. –MalaysiaGazette
