KUALA LUMPUR – The Association of Private Hospitals, Malaysia (APHM) said that patients who are tested positive for Covid-19 may get treatment at the private hospitals, as long as they fork out money and pay from their own pockets.
Its President, Datuk Dr. Kuljit Singh said that the patients cannot hope for free treatment as the private hospitals do not receive financial support from the government.
On the insurance coverage, Kuljit said that the patients need to negotiate with their insurance companies and it would depend if the medical insurance covers the cost for Covid-19 treatment.
“It is impossible to get free or cheap treatment as the private hospitals bear all the costs.
“Private hospitals have sacrificed and vacated certain wards and levels to receive Covid-19 patients,” he told China Press.
When asked if there are patients who have successfully claimed insurance for the Covid-19 treatment costs at the private hospitals, Kuljit said that he is unsure about that as it would depend on the patients and the insurance providers.
He said, the government had urged patients who can afford or are covered by insurance and companies to get treatment at the private hospitals as the government hospitals cannot afford to treat all patients.
According to him, the patients, however, need to contact the private hospital to ensure the availability of hospital bed.
“At this moment, no private hospital is experiencing full issue and almost all private hospitals can receive patients,” he said. –MalaysiaGazette
