JASIN – The boy who was suspected to be abused by his biological mother and step-father is laid to rest at the Padang Lebar Muslim Cemetery in Simpang Bekoh, Jasin this afternoon.

The body of the 7-year-old Zubaidi Amir Qusyairi Abd Malek, was claimed by the family of his biological mother from the Forensic Medical Department of the Melaka Hospital this morning and was brought to the Madrasah As Syakirin Surau for prayers.

He was then brought to the cemetery 600 metres from his biological grandfather’s house to be buried.

Amir’s adoptive mother, Norlida Abu Hassan said that she accepted his passing whole-heartedly and thanked the biological family of Amir, who gave their cooperation until the end of the funeral.

“Alhamdulilah, Amir is laid to rest safely. He looked like he was sleeping. He came into dream, asking to speed it up, do not delay. His brother dreamt that Amir requested for his funeral to be done fast.

“Alhamdullilah. Everything went smoothly. I saw him looking fresh. He did not look like he has passed away a few days ago. He looked like he was sleeping. He always looked like that when he slept with him,” she said, choking in tears.

Norlida almost collapsed several times during the funeral and she was held by other her family members. She was also seen to be patting the unfortunate child’s pillow.

When asked if she will be visiting the grave of her godson, Norlida said that she will always visit him.

“He is sleeping. He will wait for me to come tomorrow. He looked very calm. He belongs to the heaven. Be at peace, Ummi will be coming,” she said, weeping.

Media practitioners around Norlida also could not hold their tears upon seeing that woman.

“May you be at peace too. Have patience. We will pray for Amir. Be strong,” said several media practitioners who were present.

Earlier, the biological family of the late Amir refused to allow media practitioners to make coverage of the funeral despite having the prior approval of the police.

To respect the privacy and rights of the family, the police requested the journalists and photographers to wait outside the cemetery during the funeral.
