KUALA LUMPUR – Former Felda Chairman, Tan Sri Isa Abdul Samad is found guilty on nine counts of corruption charges involving RM3 million over the purchase of Merdeka Palace Hotel & Suites (MPHS) in Kuching, Sarawak.
High Court Judge, Mohd Nazlan Mohd Ghazali delivered the verdict after finding that the defence has failed to raise reasonable doubt and the prosecution has managed to prove their case as stated in all nine charges.
Isa who was in the dock looked calm as the Mohd Nazlan read out his judgement.
The accused, 71, who is also the former Menteri Besar of Negeri Sembilan is charged on nine counts of receiving gratification for himself amounting to RM3.09 illion from Ikhwan Zaidel, the Director of Gegasan Abadi Properties Sdn Bhd (GAPSB) through his former political officer, Muhammad Zahid Md Arip as an inducement for approving the RM160 million hotel purchase by Felda Investment Corporation Sdn Bhd (FICSB).
The charges against him were framed under Section 16(a)(A) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009 and is punishable under the Section 24(1) of the same act.
Mohd Nazlan is expected to deliver the sentence on Isa after the mitigation process shortly. –MalaysiaGazette
