KUALA LUMPUR – The Selangor police have started their investigation on Tan Sri Tommy Thomas for alleged defamation through his writings in his memoir.
The Selangor Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Chief, Assistant Commissioner Fadzil Ahmat said, the police have opened an investigation paper on the former Attorney-General.
According to him, the Selangor CID will be calling Tommy to record his statement soon.
“I verify that the police had received a report at Cyberjaya yesterday on the book, ‘My Story: Justice in the Wilderness.
“Following the police report, we have opened and investigation paper on Tommy Thomas,” he said in a statement today.
According to Fadzil, the Selangor police had started the investigation under Section 500 of the Penal Code for defamation.
He added, the police only received one report from the state at the moment.
Former Senior Officer from the Attorney-General’s Chamber, Datuk Mohamad Hanafiah Zakaria lodged a police report at the Cyberjaya Police Station at 8.00 pm last night.
He urged the police to investigate Tommy over the contents in his book.
In the police report, Mohamad Hanafiah said that the contents in the 248 pages book have defamed and tarnished his image as the then senior civil servant.
“The article referred to the preparation of prosecution team against Datuk Seri Najib (Tun) Razak (SRC International case) in 2018 when I was the head of the Appellate and Trial Division in AGC,” he said. –MalaysiaGazette
