KUALA LUMPUR – The Ministry of Health (MOH) will make current Covid-19 infection risk before the government reopens the national border.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said that the MOH will also take into consideration of the Covid-19 situation of the other countries, before allowing the travellers to enter Malaysia.

He said, the entry of citizens and foreigners such as students, diplomats, professionals and foreign investors had started since 1 June under the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) period.

“However, these entries are subjected to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and other terms such as the mandatory quarantine at quarantine centres.

“Under the National Recovery Plan, the government will always upgrade relevant SOP, and from 12 August, fully vaccinated citizens and non-citizens travellers can make a request to undergo their mandatory quarantine at their home.

“However, the approval is only given based on the risk assessment by MOH, and the applicants need to go for Covid-19 screening prior to getting the approval,” he said in reply to a written question by Senator Datuk Razali Idris at the Dewan Negara today.

Razali asked about the country’s preparation in reopening the national border and if fully vaccinated travellers should be allowed to undergo their mandatory quarantine at home.

Elaborating further, Ismail Sabri said that a detailed guideline and risk assessment by MOH will be carried out on each traveller, based on their application to go for home quarantine.

The government, according to him, always prioritise on SOP compliance, to increase the practice of public health control and emphasizing on the importance of immunisation to all Malaysians.

“Generally, the Government has done various preparations and the relaxations are given carefully, taking into consideration of the global development and prioritising on economy recovery.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate all Keluarga Malaysia for joining the government in the vaccination programme through the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (PICK).

“I expect that, very soon, our target to achieve 90 percent of vaccination rate can be achieved,” he said. -MalaysiaGazette
