SHAH ALAM – A group of food delivery riders assaulted a lorry driver at Jalan Persiaran Setia Perdana, Setia Alam, around 5.30 pm yesterday.
The Shah Alam District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Baharuddin Mat Taib said, the police received the viral video recording of the clash following an accident involving a food delivery rider and the lorry driver.
“The viral video involved a group of food delivery riders assaulting a Malay male following the accident.
“In that event, an accident happened between a food delivery rider and a lorry and it caused a clash involving a group of Malay men identified as food delivery riders.
“The Shah Alam Traffic Police Headquarters had opened an investigation paper on the incident,” he said in a statement today.
Following that, two food delivery riders believed to be involved in the fight were arrested and the police are actively tracking the other suspects.
“The case is investigated under Section 147/427 of the Penal Code and upon conviction, they can be imprisoned for up to two years, or fined, or both.
“Meanwhile, for the accident offence, investigation is conducted under Section 43 of the Road Transport Act 1987 and upon conviction, could be fined not less than RM4,000 and not more than RM10,000 and imprisoned not more than 12 months,” he said.
When asked about the condition of the food delivery rider who was hit by the lorry, Baharuddin said that the rider broke his right hand.
“The food delivery rider is being treated at the yellow zone of Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital in Klang,” he said.
He also said that the lorry driver involved in the accident and became an assault victim has lodged a police report at the Shah Alam IPD this afternoon.
He advised the public not to take laws into their own hands by taking rash actions and break the law.
“Everyone is urged not to take advantage on this issue to protect public peace, especially the people of Shah Alam.
“Investigation papers will be referred to the Deputy Public Prosecutor soon for further action,” he said. –MalaysiaGazette
