KUALA LUMPUR – A nurse confessed that fatigue has caused her to err by administering empty vaccine shot to the recipient.

Coordinating Minister of the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (PICK), Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar said the matter has been identified and action has been taken.

“At Sungai Petani PPV (Vaccination Centre), a nurse confessed that she administered empty vaccine as she was suffering from fatigue.

“A warning letter has been issued to that nurse,” he said in a Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF) news conference today.

Besides that, the CITF also verified that 13 police reports have been lodged on empty vaccine syringe shots.

He said, among the cases of empty syringe cases include two cases of recipients unsure if they have received their vaccine or not.

“Two cases in Banting and Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre PPV, where they have been given addition doses as they were unsure if they have been vaccinated,” he added.

Elaborating further, Khairy said that they found that those cases have no relation with the vaccine appointment sales syndicate.

“From the police report, there were no relation at all with the vaccine sales syndicate. Some cases are being investigate from the angle of vaccine sales, the police told me that at the moment, there is no relation with those cases.

“Several cases have been resolved due to misunderstanding and the complainants have deleted their social media posts,” he added.

Khairy also said that among the police reports lodged include complains on not having side effects after vaccination, they do not suffer soreness on their arm among others.

“The side effects from vaccination vary from one person to another. I did not have any side effects from vaccination but my vaccination was broadcasted live, I don’t think I would say that I received empty vaccine shots.

“Some people have some effects and some do not,” he added.

Meanwhile, CITF said that they would allow vaccine recipients to record their vaccination process at the PPV.

The measure is taken to ensure that there would be no doubt on the vaccination process.

“I have requested the permission from MOH to allow vaccine recipients to record their vaccination process so that they have solid proof that they have received their full dose.

“I hope that it can be resolved and I do not wish to hinder the frontliners from carrying out their duties,” he added. –MalaysiaGazette
