KUALA LUMPUR – Controversial cosmetics entrepreneur, Muhammad Sajjad Kamaruz Zaman or Nur Sajat has finally been arrested in Thailand after over a year of hunt by the police.

Nur Sajat, was reported to flee the country to Thailand after the Malaysian court issued an arrest warrant on her. She has been nabbed in early September by the Thai police in Bangkok after getting information on the location of the individual from the authorities in Malaysia.

However, Nur Sajat has been released on 10 September with US$2,000 (RM8,343) bail by her local friend, Misha, who flew to Thailand to manage her bail.

The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) verified the arrest of Nur Sajat on 8 September at around 6.00 pm by the Thailand Immigration Department for having invalid passport.

“We are in the midst of extraditing the suspect who is wanted in several case in the country.

“The suspect was brought to the Thailand Court over immigration offences and was fined,” PDRM said in a statement today.

According to PDRM, the suspect is wanted in Malaysia over Section 9 and Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing civil servants in discharging duty.

“Sajat is also hunted by the police under Section 353 of the Penal Code for using criminal force in intimidating civil servants in discharging their duty.

“PDRM is enhancing its effort in bringing Sajat back to Malaysia,” it said in a statement.

Nur Sajat was reported to have fled Malaysia in March before the PDRM tried to track her location. The police did not reject the possibility that the transwoman is hiding in Thailand.

Following the prosecution at Thai court, Nur Sajat needs to report herself to the Thai Immigration every 14 days although she was released at court’s bail. The suspect is rumoured to be hiding in a Bangkok condominium. -MalaysiaGazette
