KUALA LUMPUR – The government ought to call all Members of Parliament to convene at the Dewan Rakyat immediately.

Deputy President of UMNO, Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said that the step is necessary after the Yang di-Pertuan Agong (YDPA) and Malay Rulers said that there is no need to further extend the Proclamation of Emergency after 1 August.

According to him, the Parliament does not require various phases, terms and condition to sit, on the contrary, that is the actual stage for the discussion and debate of various recovery efforts.

“I sternly urge that the decree of SPB YDPA to be translated immediately. Politicising His Majesty’s order will not help in the fast recovery of the country.

“Whatever excuses to delay the reopening of the Parliament is not only an anti-democracy action, it also tarnish the nobility and wisdom of the Monarchy Institution, that is independent and above the politics,” he said in a statement today.

According to Mohamad, the government’s announcement that the Parliament can only sit in September or October through the National Recovery Plan is not a certainty.

On the contrary, it would also depend on various terms and conditions such as the reduction of cases and vaccination rate through the various phases outlined in the plan.

Yesterday, Istana Negara announced that Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al- Mustafa Billah Shah wanted the Parliament to sit as soon as possible, after he chaired the Special Malay Rulers Conference at the palace.

The decision was made after His Majesty considered all opinion from political party leaders, the Special Independent Emergency Committee 2021 and being briefed by the experts from government agencies. –MalaysiaGazette
