KUALA LUMPUR – The Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) is aware of that most of the new Covid-19 clusters emerge from workplace.

Therefore the vaccination centres (PPV) through the Public-Private Partnership COVID-19 Industry Immunisation Programme (PIKAS) are created to avoid infections from increasing among workers, especially from the manufacturing subsector.

The Minister of International Trade and Industry, Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali said that the government is targeting two million workers from the manufacturing sector to achieve herd immunity latest by this September.

Nevertheless, he said, the success would depend on the vaccine supply, including the number of manpower such as healthcare workers placed at PIKAS.

According to him, the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) and the Ministry of Health (MOH) have given their guarantee that the country would receive more vaccines in August.

Therefore, industry that has yet to register with PIKAS may do so immediately to help reach national herd immunity.

“If we roll this out fast, we would return to our normal lives fast too, but with the new normal,” he said in a statement today.

Elaborating on the argument why certain sectors are allowed to operate during the Full Movement Control Order (MCO), Azmin said that the approval was made as they are a part of the essential product or supply chain, including, in supporting the infrastructure functions such as public healthcare.

Nevertheless, MITI will not hesitate to take actions on companies that operate without its approval. –MalaysiaGazette
