The Member of Parliament (MP) of Bera was appointed as the Prime Minister last Saturday after getting the consent from the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.

The appointment and oath taking ceremony took place at the Balai Singgahsana Kecil of Istana Negara at 2.30 pm on Saturday.

Al-Sultan Abdullah appointed Ismail Sabri as the Prime Minister according to Article 40(2)(a) and Perkara 43(2)(a) of the Federal Constitution, following the resignation of Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin after the Pagoh MP lost his majority support. The latter proposed for a bipartisan cooperation, however, it was not received well by the political parties.

On 18 August, the Istana Negara received nominations on the PM post from 220 MPs through statutory declarations (SD).

According to the SD, 114 MPs nominated Ismail Sabri, thus, providing him with the majority to form a government.

Ismail is scheduled to make a work visit to Merbok and Kuala Muda in Kedah that have been declared as Level 1 disaster areas following the flood. –MalaysiaGazette
