KUALA LUMPUR – 114 registered Non-Government Organisations (NGOs) demanded for former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to chair the National Recovery Council (MPN).
The Chief Secretariat of Reset Malaysia, Dr. Nurul Ashikin Mabahwi said, the country needs someone who is recognised globally, understands and has the experience of managing crisis.
According to activist group, the MPN should report directly to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah and not the Prime Minister.
“MPN should be placed under the Agong to avoid political interference and we hope that His Majesty can grant his consent on the matter.
“MPN would focus on economic sustainability, enhancing education, reducing the current political climate and breathe new life into the health sector,” she said during a news conference after submitting a memorandum from Reset Malaysia at Istana Negara today.
Nurul Ashikin said that 114 NGOs have signed the form voluntarily in support of Dr Mahathir.
Meanwhile, in a media statement by the organisation, they also demanded for the check and balance on the country’s administration and policies of MPN at the Parliament.
Besides that, they also urged for the people to join hands in overcoming national crisis.
“The country is no longer stable after the failure of Perikatan Nasional that has put the economic, education, social and political sectors in the country to bet and killed them.
“Thus, the country needs MPN that is free from political turmoil.
“The country needs an individual who understands and is experienced in managing crisis, at the same time, is recognised globally. That figure is Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
