KUALA LUMPUR – The High Court has fixed 8 November to deliver the verdict on the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) forfeiture suit involving former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and his wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor.
Besides the duo, 17 other parties are also involved in the verdict, including Najib’s family members, individuals and several companies accused of the misappropriation.
High Court Judge Mohamed Zaini Mazlan set the date after the final prosecution argument today.
According to Mohamed Zaini, he needs to months to prepare the written judgement.
In May 2019, the Attorney-General’s Chamber (AGC) led by Tan Sri Tommy Thomas has filed the 1MDB forfeiture suit on 18 parties following the confiscation of hundreds of luxury watches, luxury handbags, foreign currencies and 27 vehicles from these 18 respondents.
Najib, who is also the Member of Pekan is the main respondent in the forfeiture suit, followed by his wife, Rosmah.
Besides that, Najib’s family members, including his stepson Riza Shahriz Abdul Aziz (who is better known as Riza Aziz), his son Nor Ashman Razak and his daughter Nooryana Najwa are also named as the third, fourth and fifth respondents in the trial.
Other respondents include Mohd Kyizzad Mesran, Senijauhar Sdn Bhd, Aiman Ruslan, Yayasan Rakyat 1Malaysia, Yayasan Semesta, Yayasan Mustika Kasih, Rembulan Kembara Sdn Bhd, Goh Gaik Ewe (mother to fugitive businessman, Low Taek Jho or Jho Low), former Goldman Sachs banker Roger Ng, lawyer Lim Hwee Bin, Kee Kok Thiam, Tan Vern Tact and Geh Choh Hun are also named as respondents.
Among the items seized on 17 May 2018 were 52 branded handbags and 10 luxury watches and cash in various denominations including RM187,750 of old notes, RM21,150 of new notes, £320,500 of old notes, £2,700 of new notes, AS$100, €20, S$40, 2,870,000 Sri Lanka rupee, 13,177,00 rupiah, 376 hryvnias (Ukrainian note), 50 franc, 10 rands, 531 riyal, and 740 Philippines peso.
Besides that, four branded watches, 171 luxury handbags, 27 pair of shoes, 40 luxury handbags were also seized on 11 June 2018.
On 2 August 2018, 27 Nissan Urvan were confiscated by the authorities. –MalaysiaGazette
