LANGKAWI – The reopening of other holiday islands would depend on the success of the pioneer domestic travel bubble project in Langkawi that begins today.
Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said that it would also depend on the new normal in the renowned island besides compliance to standard operating procedures (SOP).
“The feedbacks will be presented and evaluated by the National Security Council (MKN) for consideration to open more tourism destinations in the future,” she said during the launch of the Tourism Initiatives in Conjunction with the Reopening of Langkawi Island at the Langkawi International Convention Centre (LICC), Kedah.
The launch was officiated by the Menteri Besar of Kedah, Muhammad Sanusi Md. Nor.
Nancy added, other tourism destinations would be allowed to operate if the vaccination rate of the locality reaches 80 percent herd immunity.
Therefore, Nancy urged the travellers who wish to travel to Langkawi to adhere to the SOP.
“This is to ensure that the Langkawi tourism bubble remains green and leads to the reopening of more domestic travel bubble in the future,” she said.
According to her, the ministry places high hopes on Langkawi as it is not only the focus of domestic tourists, but also local and international media.
“It may even lead to the reopening of international tourism if this travel bubble is a success,” she said. -MalaysiaGazette
