KUALA LUMPUR – The cause of death of a detainee in police custody at the Pengkalan Chepa Police Station lock up of the Kota Bharu District Police Headquarters two days ago was pneumonia.
The Director of Integrity and Standard Compliance Department, Datuk Azri Ahmad said that the result was based on the autopsy conducted at the Raja Perempuan Zainab 2, Kota Bharu yesterday.
“Autopsy found that there was no injury or criminal element, and the cause of death was pneumonia.
“The death was classified as sudden death,” he said in a statement today.
However, the Criminal Investigation and Custodial Death Unit of the Bukit Aman Integrity and Standard Compliance Department will continue its investigation from various angles before submitting a report to the Deputy Public Prosecutor for decision.
In his statement yesterday, Azri said that the local 37 years-old man died at 4.35 pm.
The detainee was arrested under Section 12(2) and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. He was remanded for four days beginning 16 January until 19 January. -MalaysiaGazette
