KUALA LUMPUR – The Parliament corrected the bloc vote result for the motion tabled by Home Minister, Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin for the amendment of Subsection 4(5) of the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (SOSMA).

The Speaker of Dewan Rakyat, Tan Sri Azhar Azizan Harun said that a check on the final result yesterday found that the 85 Members of Parliament (MPs) had voted for the motion and not 84 as announced yesterday evening.

“YB Jempol, Datuk Seri Salim Sharif notified the list of votes from D1 during the bloc vote for the motion from the Home Minister yesterday.

“He, who counted the bloc votes from D1 block said that there was an error of marking YB Besut, Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh as absent in the list of voters, however, he was actually present during the voting session.

“Therefore, I use the Standing Order 100 to Amend the Bloc Vote Decision for the motion from Home Minister, from 84 to 85 for the motion and not present to be amended from 50 to 49. Meanwhile, 86 voting against the motion remain,” he said while resuming the afternoon Parliament session today.

Following the failure of the Members of Parliament (MPs) from the government to be present at the Dewan Rakyat during the voting time, the motion from the Home Minister to extend the implementation period for Subsection 4(5) of SOSMA for five more years have failed to pass in a bloc vote.

While delivering the result, Azhar Azizan said that the number of MPs voted for the motion was 84, meanwhile, 86 MPs voted against the motion. At the same time, 50 MPs were absent during the vote. -MalaysiaGazette
