KUALA LUMPUR – Department heads will be responsible on the syariah court verdict for salary cut for the payment of alimony claims.
Director-General of Public Services, Mohd Shafiq Abdullah, said in a letter that the order is in line with the government’s effort to protect the welfare of women and children affected by divorce, especially in receiving alimony.
“It is subjected to the respective authorities, generally, this order is extended to all state public services, statutory authorities and local authorities,” he said in that letter.
On 8 March, Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced that the government has amended the Financial Financing Act to enable the banks to freeze the husbands’ bank account at court’s order to help women affected by divorce.
With the amendment, the banks are also allowed to transfer funds from the husband’s account which has been frozen to the wife if the spouse makes a claim from the court through the Hiwalah method. -MalaysiaGazette
