KUALA LUMPUR – Datuk Seri Najib Razak reminded the PKR leadership not to create non-existing stories in Ramadan about the debate date between him and Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
The former Prime Minister said that according to the stories curated by the opposition, they put 100% of the blame on him although the person who ignited the debate was the number three leader of PKR, Rafizi Ramli.
“In Ramadan, when we want to tell a story, we should tell the full story. Look at these dates, 1 April 2022, Rafizi challenged Najib to debate. 2 April 2022, Najib accepted the debate but invited Anwar together.
“On 3 April 2022 (first day of Ramadan), Anwar agreed to debate and 6 April, Anwar said, ‘arranging a suitable time with Najib’,” he said in a Facebook post today.
He was elaborating several statements issued by Anwar and Fahmi, who sneered him for allegedly avoiding the debate during Ramadan.
The statement gave a general picture as though Najib challenged Anwar for a debate but when they agreed, he gave all sorts of excuses on the date.
According to Najib, after the duo expressed their agreement, his assistant and the Selangor Barisan Nasional (BN) Communications Chief, Isham Jalil set up a meeting with the representatives from PKR led by the Member of Parliament (MP) of Lembah Pantai, Fahmi Fadzil.
Then, Isham announced in his social media that he met Fahmi last week to discuss about the debate.
“In that meeting, according to Isham, Fahmi agreed to debate after raya (Hari Raya Aidilfitri) and Fahmi said, second or third week (after raya) is suitable too.
“However, Isham said, Fahmi told the media yesterday that PRK and him did not agree to debate after Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
“Thus, Isham answered, what’s with all these turn by the members of PKR. It’s not good to lie during the fasting month, YB,” Najib shared the chronology of the meeting between Isham and Fahmi’s team.
According to Najib, while focussing on his religion throughout the 10 days of fasting. He was shocked when the PKR gang and Anwar accused him of challenging the debate during Ramadan.
“The person who started the challenge was his gang, Rafizi, and his gang, Fahmi also said that the best time to debate is after Ramadan, in time management, TV slot hours and in respect of the Ramadan month.
“You people threw the challenge. Najib accepted it. You guys agreed to do it after the fasting month. You also accused Najib of chickening out?
“I am not afraid at all. I give my guarantee. I will debate with Anwar on Sapura Energy. This is my guarantee and I will fulfil it. I am not from the manifesto is not holy book gang,” Najib sneered. -MalaysiaGazette
