GEORGE TOWN – A man died after he fell into the river at Taman Areca Pinang Park, Lebuh Sungai Pinang 1 last night.

The victim, Muhammad Amiruddin Biddin, 21, went for a walk at the river alone before he was seen to fall into the river by a passerby.

The Jalan Perak Fire and Rescue Station Operation Chief, A’azelan Hassan said, they received a call about the incident at 8.14 pm.

“The search operation was assisted by the public and local fishermen using their personal boats.

“Besides that, the operation also involved the Water Rescue Unit (PPDA) based on the exact location given by the witness where the victim was seen to have fallen,” he said last night.

According to A’azelan, the victim was found approximately 15 metres from that spot at 10.37 pm.

“The victim was verified dead by the healthcare workers from the Ministry of Health.

“The body of the victim was handed over to the police for further action before he was brought to the Penang Hospital for autopsy,” he said.

He added, the operation ended at 11.13 pm and involved 24 members from the Bagan Jerman Fire Station and two senior officers. -MalaysiaGazette
