BANDAR BAHARU – 96 Rohingya ethnic detainees are still at large after they broke out from the Sungai Bakap Immigration Detention Centre at Relau two days ago.

The Kedah Police Chief, Commissioner Wan Hassan Wan Ahmad said that the manhunt is underway and various actions have been taken to track them down.

He said, 34 detainees have been rearrested yesterday, shifting the total recovered detainees to 432 individuals.

“They comprised of 218 men, 88 women, 65 boys and 61 girls. Meanwhile, 96 detainees are still at large involving 76 men, 9 women, 4 boys and 7 girls,” he said in a media statement today.

MalaysiaGazette reported earlier that 528 Rohingya detainees escaped the Sungai Bakap Immigration Detention Centre on Wednesday (20 Apr). Six of the detainees died after they were involved in an accident while crossing Kilometre 168 southbound PLUS Expressway near Jawi, Penang. -MalaysiaGazette
