LANGKAWI – The assault case of a student being attacked by a group of students at a secondary school yesterday was due to misunderstanding.
The incident came into light after a video recording of a victim being punched and kicked by approximately 10 other students went viral in the social media.
The Langkawi District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Shariman Ashari said, the incident happened yesterday and a report was lodged by the victim today.
Preliminary investigation found that the incident happened at about 9.00 am yesterday in a class at that school.
“The cause of the incident was due to misunderstanding between the students involved and the video was recorded by a student from that class.
“The victim was referred to the Sultanah Maliha Hospital right after the police report and the doctor did not find any physical injuries at the moment,” he said in a news statement today.
Shariman added, all suspects have been identified and further investigation is ongoing.
“The case is investigated under Section 147 of the Penal Code,” he said.
Earlier, a 25-second video was shared in the Telegram Group, Laporan Kemalangan, Bencana & Khidmat Masyarakat di Langkawi.
The video showed a group of students surrounded another student before they started punching and pushing the victim before he fell down and they kicked and stepped on him.
One of the attackers also slammed a table on the victim who was lying on the floor. -MalaysiaGazette
