I urge all Malaysians to proudly fly the Jalur Gemilang as we welcome National Month and countdown the days to our 67th National Day. We should truly embrace and display our patriotism and love for the country and flying the Jalur Gemilang ensures that and more. It is not just a flag it is our symbol of nationhood and sovereignty.

This year’s theme of “Malaysia Madani: Jiwa Merdeka” emphasises among others unity among Malaysians which includes building progressiveness and harmony. It is a timely reminder and serves as a clarion call. However, the truth is, we do not need themes or reminders to instil or strengthen our sense of patriotism and unity.

It has been and will always be there. The sense of togetherness is strong among Malaysians. It is this spirit that has taken us through thick and thin.

The brotherhood of men formed during challenging times such as the Covid-19 pandemic and recent floods showed that togetherness has always been the Malaysian way. That does not require any theme or slogan to resonate as kindness and sincerity was the only currency in use.

There is no denying that selfish individuals are among us, aiming to divide and test the spirit of unity we have fought hard to sustain. However, pay no heed to these quarters.

Look towards the Jalur Gemilang for strength. Draw hope and inspiration from the flag waving majestically in the backdrop of a clear blue sky.

In the same breath, I would like to strongly remind Malaysians to be sensitive towards the etiquettes of flying the Jalur Gemilang. Do not fool around or make light of the symbol of our nationhood and sovereignty.  Refer to the relevant authorities such as the Information Department for the do’s and don’ts of displaying the flag.

We are all heading towards a shared objective of harmony, peace and unity. Let the Jalur Gemilang and its glory, serve as a beacon of strength and hope.
