GEORGE TOWN – Three individuals with Tan Sri and Datuk titles believed to be the mastermind of an international drug syndicate based in Malaysia are not involved in the political arena.

Bukit Aman’s Director of Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID), Datuk Razarudin Husain said that the three individuals within the police radar are businessmen hiding behind legitimate businesses.

“They (Tan Sri and Datuk) conduct legitimate businesses but they are connected to drugs. At the moment, we are still compiling statements.

“Once we have enough of evidences, we will make the arrests, just like the other cases involving the dignitaries before this,” he said at the Penang Police Contingent Headquarters today.

According to Razarudin, arrests involving dignitaries involved in drug syndicate is nothing new but they are not revealed to the media.

“We also arrested a dignitary at Batu Gajah, Melaka, believed to be involved in criminal syndicate last year and he is still detained under the The Dangerous Drugs (Special Preventive Measures) Act 1985.

“Besides that, in 2017, we also arrested a Datuk Seri over the similar offence,” he said.

Last Saturday, Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador revealed that the police have identified several masterminds of a drug distribution syndicate who hides behind their Tan Sri and Datuk Seri titles.

The syndicate is detected to have a vast network, hiding behind legitimate businesses and living luxuriously. However, it is difficult to implicate them with the drug related activities.

He said, only lower ranking individuals are busted during major raids which amounted to millions of ringgit while the top leaders of the main network remain unaffected.

“Although they are Tan Sri and Datuk Seri, it is time for them to face justice for harming thousands of Malaysians with drugs,” said Abdul Hamid. –MalaysiaGazette
