KUALA LUMPUR – The Chairman of Semboyan 1Malaysia Consumers Association (Semboyan 1Malaysia), Yusuf Azmi apologised over the viral assault incident.

He, along with four other NGO activists including Abang Ali were summoned by the police for investigation several hours after a foreigner was assaulted by that group in front of a premise in Cheras.

He said, his friends and him thank the investigator from the Kajang District Police Headquarters (IPD) for thoroughly investigating the event, and he would give full cooperation to the police to facilitate the investigation.

“I admit my mistake. I could not control my anger and I apologise to all Malaysians who have given a lot of support to me and the Semboyan Malaysia NGO.

“I am also grateful that after the incident, the police had successfully arrested a scammer who collected money from the public by using the name of Semboyan Malaysia.

“What ignited the rage of my friends and I was not merely that the scammer had cheated many people, he also slandered against the owner of a printing premise that has nothing to do with his evil activities,” he said during a news conference this morning.

Earlier, media reported that Yusuf, along with five individuals were arrested by the police after they assaulted a foreigner in front of a premise at Jalan Alam Jaya 19, Taman Alam Jaya, Batu 9 Cheras.

The Kajang District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zaid Hassan said, all six individuals aged between 24 and 54 were arrested after a one minute 21 second video went viral. Nevertheless, one out of five of the suspects was released on police bail.

According Yusuf, five of his friends including Abang Ali and him went to the police station at around 1.00 am to give their statements and were released on police bail at about 21 hours after that.

“We gave our full statements within 21 hours so, rumours about we have been arrested were not true.

“We leave it to the police to complete the investigation and we are ready for any prosecution at the court.

“The moral of the story is that we have succeeded in toppling a scam selling pirated t-shirt using the name of Semboyan Malaysia and cleared the name of our NGO from being accused of collecting money inappropriately,” he said.

He however, did not deny the negative perception of the people towards him and his NGO following the viral video.

Nevertheless, everything that happened was due to his efforts in stopping scam syndicates from using the name of the NGO to rake profit. –MalaysiaGazette
