KUALA LUMPUR – An electronic component manufacturing plant in Nilai, Negeri Sembilan has been ordered shut immediately after 53 of its workers were tested positive for Covid-19.

According to a source, the order was issued by the Ministry of Health (MOH) after conducting Covid-19 screening on the factory workers yesterday.

The source said, the screening was conducted after dozens of its workers were tested positive for Covid-19, however, the employers did not take any action to shut the factory, forcing the MOH to take actions.

“It is bizarre that the company only ordered the workers from certain department infected by Covid-19 to stop going to work but not the whole factory.

“I got the information from several workers of that factory who are afraid to go to work after several of their friends were tested positive for Covid-19.

“Although it has been informed the human resources department of the factory, there was no order to shut the factory down, until the MOH came to conduct Covid-19 screening yesterday.

“Today, they were all asked to go to a clinic for screening after the MOH said that they are all close contacts to the cases detected,” said the source when contacting MalaysiaGazette today.

The source added, he regretted the attitude of the employers who did not prioritise on the general interests but still ordered their workers to go to work when they have the responsibility to stop the outbreak.

The source said, all workers who were tested positive have been sent to the Quarantine Centre in Port Dickson, including 53 others who were detected yesterday. The plant is ordered shut for 14 days. –MalaysiaGazette
