KUALA LUMPUR – The Parliament sitting may be held during the Third Phase of the Full Movement Control Order (MCO) in September or October under strict standard operating procedures.
Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said that it has always been his stand right from the beginning that the Parliamentary Democracy system can function again at the right time, after the Covid-19 cases is contained and the country almost reaches its herd immunity.
“I will always support the principles of Parliamentary Democracy and Constitutional Monarchy,” he said during the announcement of the National Recovery Plan: Stages of MCO Transition today.
Muhyiddin also reminded that nobody should purportedly create anxiety and confusion among the people and disrupt the government’s main duty in combating the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Proclamation of Emergency by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Emergency Ordinance (Essential Powers) 2021 was gazetted from 14 January 2021 until 1 August 2021.
Through the Emergency Ordinance, a Emergency Management Technical Committee was set up to ensure that the implementation of emergency and the efforts to curb Covid-19 can be managed efficiently and effectively.
Following the announcement, Muhyiddin then announced that the Parliament and State Assembly (DUN) will not sit until a suitable time determine by Agong.
With the announcement, many politicians started to question the suspension of Parliament when the executive branches and judiciary in the government go on as usual during the emergency. –MalaysiaGazette
