KUALA LUMPUR – The retail price for RTK-Antigen Covid-19 self-test kit has been set at the ceiling price of RM19.90 per set, meanwhile, its wholesale price is fixed at RM16 each set.

The ceiling price was made to ensure appropriate and efficient enforcement in the market for the benefit of the consumers.

The decision was announced in a joint-statement by the Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi and the Ministry of Health Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar.

“The government is aware of the Covid-19 situation in the country and around the world that has yet to subside, furthermore, the current situation is getting more challenging,” said the statement.

The decision was also made based on the demands for the RTK-Antigen Covid-19 self-test kit as more people are aware of the situation and would like to conduct self-tests to ensure that they are free from the disease.

“KPDNHEP has formed a joint-governance with all local industry players and importers in determining an appropriate control price for all parties.

“KPDNHEP also projected that the competition would further stabilise the retail prices at all level, just like what is happening to the price for face masks now,” said the statement.

Stern actions will be taken on traders who fail to obey the regulations and actions will be taken under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011.

The offence of selling above the ceiling price could cause an individual to be fined up to RM100,000 or imprisoned for not more than three years or both, or compound of up to RM50,000.

Meanwhile, similar offence for businesses is liable for fine of up to RM500,000 or RM250,000.

According to the joint-statement, the ministry provides various medium for consumers to lodge complaints. The ministry also created a Skuad Tindakan Aduan Rakyat (STAR) to handle complaints more efficiently.

Consumers may channel their complaints to the ministry through [email protected], Call Centre 1800 886 800, mobile application Ez ADU, call Enforcement Command Centre (ECC) 03-8882 6245 / 608 or Whatsapp their complaints to 019- 279 4317. – MalaysiaGazette
