SEGAMAT – Ministry of Health (MOH) made the decision to temporary postpone the umrah pilgrimage effective of this Saturday (8 January) for the safety of the people.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said that the detailed information about the travel deferment will be presented by the ministry tomorrow.
“The Ministry of Health will present about Covid-19 issues, especially on the Omicron variant, including the suggestions or decisions made on umrah.
“We will get the exact picture tomorrow. I wish to state that the action of the Health Ministry was to protect our lives. We will get the detailed report tomorrow,” he said after visiting the flood victims at the Kampung Tandong Temporary Flood Evacuation Centres, Buloh Kasap, Segamat today.
Together with him was the Menteri Besar of Johor, Datuk Hasni Mohammad.
Last Saturday, Health Minister, Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar announced the deferment of umrah pilgrimage travel as a preventive measure to slow down the Omicron variant wave.
According to the Prime Minister, the meeting tomorrow would also be discussing about post-flood management and the government’s preparation to face the second wave of the disaster.
“I chaired the special committee meeting on post-flood and second wave that was also attended by the Menteri Besar and Chief Ministers.
“We will present our decision to the Cabinet. The special committee meeting was also attended by the Inspector-General of Police and the Chief of Malaysian Armed Forces,” he said. -MalaysiaGazette
