PUTRAJAYA – RM100 million has been allocated for to restore and rebuild the houses of flood victims under Rumah Kasih Keluarga Malaysia Initiative which involved the Ministry of Housing and Local Government and the Ministry of Rural Development.
The initiative has started last Saturday and according to the Minister of Housing and Local Government, Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican, it is a dynamic, not static figure as the flood is still ongoing in Johor and has just started in Sabah.
He added, the initiative will be carried out by the Perbadanan PR1MA Malaysia (PR1MA) and Syarikat Perumahan Negara Berhad to restore 7,724 houses and rebuild 110 new houses for flood victims.
“The Prime Minister reminded us to start the initiative immediately and there should be no delay in helping the flood victims.
“Therefore, we, from the two ministries will ensure that no flood victims will be left behind in restarting their lives after the flood,” he said during the announcement of Rumah Kasih Keluarga Malaysia Initiative today.
Together with him at the news conference was the Minister of Rural Development, Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid.
Reezal Merican added, the ministry has proposed to the Cabinet to introduce rental vouchers to the flood victims whose house needs to be rebuilt to lighten their burdens of renting a place while waiting for their house to be rebuilt.
“The flood victims may apply for the for the Rumah Kasih Keluarga Malaysia Initiative via the District Offices and the State Government Secretary Offices.
“Meanwhile, KPKT and KPLB will channel the aids to the houses involved,” he said.
On the other hand, Mahdzir said, his ministry will be restoring 1,879 and rebuilding 156 houses based on the latest data.
He said, the initiative will be implemented by agencies such as Giat Mara, Rubber Industry Smallholders Development Authority (RISDA) and Federal Land Consolidation and Rehabilitation Authority (FELCRA) by prioritising local contractors.
“The ministry has received the data of the affected flood victims from the state government and the Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU) of the Prime Minister’s Department.
“1,879 houses to restore and 156 houses to rebuilt have been identified,” he said. -MalaysiaGazette
