PUTRAJAYA – The National Recovery Council (MPN) has recommended for the full reopening of national borders as early as 1 March, without the mandatory quarantine.
Its Chairman, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said that the reopening of national borders needs to be done in an organised manner based on the current risk assessment.
He said, the implementation would help the national economy recovery process and other tourism related industries.
“Therefore, with the decision today, the process of national recovery can be accelerated. The investors can come, the tourism industry will also improve, so will the aviation industry,” he said during a news conference after chairing the MPN meeting today.
He added, the Ministry of Health (MOH) also recommended for mandatory Covid-19 screening on travellers upon departure and arrival if the government agrees with the recommendation to reopen national borders.
Earlier, Muhyiddin said that he is confident that the national healthcare system would be able to manage the daily Covid-19 positive bases based on its previous experience.
“Based on the briefing given by the MOH, our public healthcare system can still afford to manage it as it already has experience in the form of medical, ward, hospital and increment of cases. The public healthcare capacity is still able to support that,” he said. -MalaysiaGazette
