KUALU LUMPUR – The President of PKR Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim insisted that the letters from party chiefs who gave him their support to form the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government again in 2020 exists.
The Opposition Chief said that it could not be realised due principles.
“When I mentioned about the convincing, formidable support, although people made fun of me, it was based on the letters from the party leaders and the number was indeed convincing and formidable.
“That was two years ago. I am still defending that the letter exists,” he said in an interview with Sinar Harian, The Vibes and Malaysiakini at his office recently.
During that interview, Anwar said that he presented the principle conditions that the Members of Parliament (MP) who wanted to support him and work with PH must adhere to.
Among the uncompromised principles were no narrow racial policies, corruption, governance compliance and good leadership.
He also set rules that no one should topple a government half-way as what happened to the PH government earlier.
“I was truly against to promise that people who are charged and implicated with corruption to be released. I was stern about that although it may mean that I could not become the Prime Minister
“This must be clear because the country must be free from rottenness, especially from the leaders who rake wealth or loves corruption.
“I was not ready to meddle with the judiciary body which must be free and authoritative because we have the experience with the judiciary organisation in the past,” he said.
Therefore, Anwar, who is the Chairman of PH, confessed that a huge portion of the MPs who supported him earlier failed to obey the principle conditions causing them to make a U-turn on their decision.
On 23 September 2020, Anwar announced that he had garnered strong support from the MPs to form a government.
According to the MP of Port Dickson, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong had granted him an audience, however, it was postponed as the King had to seek treatment at the National Heart Institute (IJN).
However, on 13 October 2020, the Istana Negara issued a statement stating that the Yang di-Pertuan Agong did not receive the list of MPs who supported Anwar when he had an audience with Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.
“During the 25-minute session, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim presented the number of MPs who allegedly gave him their support. Nevertheless, he did not provide the name list of the members from Dewan Rakyat to strengthen his claim.
“Therefore, Al-Sultan Abdullah advised Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to accept and respect the existing legal processes stated in the Federal Constitution,” said the Comptroller of the Royal Household, Datuk Indera Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin.- MalaysiaGazette
