KUALA LUMPUR – The testimony from Yasmin Nahar Mahmood, 19, who alleged that Bella was fed with 1,280 cili padi is the biggest lie by the fifth witness of the case involving the founder of Rumah Bonda, Siti Bainun Ahd Razali.
Siti Bainun’s defence counsel, Nur Aminahtul Mardiah Md Nor said that there was no medical report from the doctor showing that the Down Syndrome girl was fed with chilli and suffered internal injuries due to eating a lot of chilis.
Lawyer: Yasmin, I suggest, do you know that if you eat chilli every day, it would cause tissue inflammation? Do you know? Her stomach could also be injured. It could also caused heart burn?
Witness: I don’t know.
Lawyer: None of the doctors testified or in their medical report submitted to the defence showed that Bella suffers from stomach problems or heart burn. Do you agree?
Witness: I don’t know.
Lawyer: Because it never happened, Yasmin.
The witness however told the court that she did not lie while testifying about the matter.
The media reported earlier that Yasmin told the court that Bella was forced to eat 20 cili padi several times a week for weeks by Siti Bainun.
In the trial before Sessions Court Judge, Izralizam Sanusi today, Nur Aminahtul Mardiah also alleged that Yasmin lied when she said that Bella was poured with the hot water taken from the Cuckoo water dispenser.
According to Nur Aminahtul Mardiah, the machine broke down since 11 March 2021, the month Yasmin said Siti Bainun started to torture Bella. The machine was repaired on 22 June 2021.
Lawyer: Yasmin could remember every detail that happened in the condominium but you could not remember that Cuckoo broke down?
Yasmin: Cuckoo broke down.
Lawyer: Do you remember or not?
Yasmin: No.
Lawyer: And this Cuckoo broke down since March 2021. Do you know?
Yasmin: No.
Before the recess at 1.00 pm, Nur Aminahtul Mardiah suggested to Yasmin that she has told 30 lies at the court. Nevertheless, Yasmin denied all allegations and insisted that she did not give any false testimony.
The trial will resume at 2.30 pm.
Siti Bainun, 30, pleaded not guilty to two counts of child neglect and abuse of the girl with disability, causing Bella to sustain physical and emotional wounds.
She was charged with committing the offences at a condominium in Wangsa Maju between February and June 2021.
The charges were framed under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 which carries the maximum punishment of 20 years in prison or RM50,000 in fine or both upon conviction. -MalaysiaGazette
