THE recent statement by PDRM emphasising they will take stern action and conduct continuous operations to ensure the route up to Genting Highlands is not used as a racing circuit by irresponsible road users, must be commended.

I personally echo PDRM’s stand, and it is a warning to all road users, who treat our public roads, and highways as racing circuits. It is a common occurrence, and the act is totally irresponsible, selfish and endangers everyone’s lives.

It seems whatever message sent out by the authorities and road safety advocates are falling on deaf ears. However, let this piece serve as a clarion call.

These irresponsible individuals commit their acts regardless of if it’s in the light of day or the still of night, and manoeuvre their machines so aggressively, it would put movies to shame.

Owning a fast and powerful car or motorbike does not give anyone the license to drive or ride recklessly.

Please practice safe and defensive driving instead.

There is also a growing trend of individuals testing vehicles on the route up to Genting Highlands, pushing cars hard and fast, sometimes at breakneck speeds, up the winding road, and posting the experience on social media.

Please stop! The road is used by all. Do not throw me the excuse of this being a free country or having freedom of speech. I am a strong advocate of both. However, it is not to be abused in any manner. The Laws of Malaysia are in effect. Respect it.

There are no two ways about it, aggressive driving only brings harm and God forbid loss of lives. Do not endanger other innocent lives. Much have already been lost due to drivers who drive under the influence of drugs and alcohol.

I would like to strongly urge these irresponsible drivers to repent and stop their dangerous and selfish act. You do not need to have blood on your hands before you come to your senses.

We can and must safeguard ourselves, and this includes applying the right mentality and attitude while driving on the road.

The police, enforcement and medical personnel and our frontlines are already bogged down with a heavy workload. Please do not add on to their burden.

Do not endanger the lives of other road users and yourself.
