BUTTERWORTH – A shop assistant has been arrested after being suspected of abusing her own baby boy at Luminari Apartment yesterday.

The evildoing of the 25 year-old woman was exposed after her baby was sent to her husband’s house last Saturday.

It was understood that the suspect and her husband do not live together following misunderstandings between them.

The Seberang Perai Utara District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Noorzainy Mohd Noor said that the police received a report on the incident from the father of the victim, who is a mechanic.

He said, investigation found that the baby was sent to the house of the complainant at 4.30 pm in Kuala Bekah, Padang Benggali by his wife.

“The complainant requested his sister-in-law to help shower his baby boy, before he was told that there were bruises on the baby’s eyes and boy.

“Following that, the complainant brought the victim to the Seberang Jaya Hospital for examination, before the hospital verified that there were other bruises on the forehead, face and tummy of the victim.

“Besides that, the victim’s right eye was also bleeding. Nevertheless, the baby is active and does not have suffer serious injuries,” he said when contacted today.

According to Noorzainy, the suspect alleged that the baby boy fell from the cradle while her friends were looking after the baby at the Luminari Apartment, which caused the injuries.

“However, the suspect’s statements were dubious and we arrested her to assist into the investigation.

“Urine test on the woman also found that she was positive of drugs and we do not reject the possibility that the suspect and her friends are drug addicts.

“Inspection also found that the suspect has three drug related previous records,” he said.

According to Noorzainy, further investigation is ongoing and the case is investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001. –MalaysiaGazette
