KUALA LUMPUR – The public is urged not to spread inaccurate information about the death of a nurse from the Penang Hospital, which could cause wrong perceptions on the Covid-19 vaccine.
Explaining about the news which went viral yesterday, the Penang State Health Director, Datuk Dr. Asmayani Khalib said no allergy reaction was found in the body of the nurse based on the post-mortem conducted on the 45-year-old nurse.
On the contrary, the cause of death of the nurse who had chronic hypertension was heart attack.
“Autopsy showed that the cause of death was due to heart attack. There was no signs of anaphylaxis or allergic reaction. Therefore, the death was not related to the Covid-19 vaccination.
“The Penang District Health Department urges the public not to spread inaccurate and unverified information to avoid misconception about the Covid-19 vaccine,” she added.
Earlier, she said that the nurse was in a stable condition after the Corminaty Covid-19 vaccine injection by Pfizer-BioNTech on 12 March.
“After being vaccinated at the Vaccination Centre, the officer was stable. She only complained about soreness at the injection site on her left arm after the jab, however, she was able to work as usual according to her work shift at the hospital,” she said.
On 16 March, the nurse complained to her husband that she had trouble breathing, however, she did not receive any treatment.
According to Asmayani, she also did not report her condition to the Vaccination Centre.
She was then found unconscious on 17 March midnight.
Yesterday, the Kuala Muda District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Adzli Abu Shah said that based on the forensic autopsy report, the 45-year-old nurse passed away due to heart attack.
