KUALA LUMPUR – The government gives its guarantee that it will immediately call for a Parliament sitting when the time is right, before of after the emergency ends on 1 August 2021.

However, it would depend on the advice and opinion of the experts after checking with the relevant parties, especially the Ministry of Health and the National Security Council.

Minister at Prime Minister’s Department, Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said, despite during the emergency period, everyone, including the opposition can channel their opinion to the government through the permissible channels including the Independent TaskForce set under the Emergency Ordinances to advise the Yang di-Pertuan Agong on matters pertaining to the emergency.

“The government is aware of the constitutional responsibility to allow the democratic process of the country is guaranteed through the Parliament sitting. However, the priority now is to ensure that the outbreak can be fully contained, including, to protect the health aspects of the Members of Parliament, officers and everyone who deal with the Parliament,” he said.

In a statement, he said that the government takes note on the urges of several quarters, including political parties calling for the Parliament to convene despite the country is still facing the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to him, the prevention and control of the deadly outbreak is ongoing and the whole government is giving its focus on the continuous immunisation, treatment, isolation and vaccination plan.

Besides that, the enforcement team, especially the police, armed forces, immigration, RELA and others are still working hard on protecting the national borders from being invaded by illegal immigrants that carry Covid-19 infection risks outside.

Takiyuddin said, the suspicion on power abuse should not happen as the government system is functioning as usual, especially from the administrative monitoring by the enforcers, especially the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, Auditor-General’s Office and Public Accounts Committee.

Therefore, everyone is urged to give full cooperation to the government in its efforts to ensure the survival of the people in the health, economic and social aspects. –MalaysiaGazette
