KUALA LUMPUR – The Ministry of Health (MOH) is considering to implement tighter standard operating procedures (SOP) or the full scale Movement Control Order (MCO) in Selangor if the state fails to contain Covid-19.
Minister of Health, Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba answered the queries from journalists about why the MCO in Selangor is similar to the other states when the number of infections is very alarming in Selangor.
Selangor has recorded 10,393 Covid-19 infection cases last week and 1,650 cases today. It is also leading the infection score in the country.
In a joint-news conference, the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar said that the MCO is implemented nationwide to allow the MOH to conduct more Covid-19 screening and to conduct isolate and treat Covid-19 positive patients effectively.
The MOH has conducted RTK-Antigen tests in areas that recorded high number of cases by quickly tracing the contacts.
“However, I agree that we should suggest tighter SOP and MCO to the government.
“If the virus cannot be contained, thus, the suggestion for full MCO could be something we should consider,” he added while expressing his concerns about the rising cases in Category 3, 4 and 5 of Covid-19 patients as they are related to the new variant.
He said, the MOH is still closely monitoring the situation. –MalaysiaGazette
