PUTRAJAYA – 4,855 new Covid-19 cases and 3,347 recoveries were reported nationwide today. Therefore, the cumulative cases in the country has rose to 458,077 cases.

Director-General of Health, Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said, from the 4,855 new cases, three of them were imported involving foreigners, meanwhile, the remaining 4,852 were local infections. 358 cases from the local infections involved foreigners.

He said, the number of active cases in the country is 41,582 cases and 481 cases are being treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Meanwhile, 247 of the cases required respiratory support.

“Daily cases breakdown according to the states witnesses Selangor continues to lead the daily Covid-19 chart with the highest number of cases in the country with 1,783 cases, followed by the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur (521 cases), Johor recorded 467 cases, meanwhile, Sarawak and Penang recorded 395 cases each,” he said in a statement today.

He added, the number of Covid-19 deaths remained at double digit with 27 cases compared to 39 deaths yesterday. Thus, the cumulative Covid-19 deaths in the country has shifted to 1,788 cases.

He said, eight deaths were recorded in Selangor, five cases in Johor, three in Kelantan and two cases each in Sabah, Kuala Lumpur, Sarawak and Penang. Meanwhile, one case is recorded in Perak, Pahang and the Federal Territory of Labuan.

“All victims who passed away are local citizens aged between 37 and 83 years-old. Meanwhile, 18 were men and nine were women.

“All victims had chronic diseases such as obesity, high blood pressure, diabetes, chronic heart and kidney diseases,” he said. –MalaysiaGazette
